With Spring in the air and some of us planning our summer vacations, I’m going also going to continue to explore the best places to live in North Carolina and South Carolina near Lakes.

And, we’re also going to learn more about what there is to do in the Carolinas.

Deciding to retire or relocate to the best places to live in the Carolinas is great.  However it’s helpful if you also know what there is to do in the area you are considering.

And the Carolinas have some pretty amazing sites to see and things to do.

On Annual Best Places for Business and Career report for 2013, Charlotte is ranked at #19. That’s quite impressive when you consider this list ranks 200 large cities throughout the United States.

As I pull into the city, it is clear it has charm. And by charm I don’t mean small town charm.

This North Carolina best place to live is the largest city in the state. The county seat and it is not a small city by any means.

With a population of 2.4 million regionally, Charlotte is known for many things.  Including NASCAR, Lake Wylie, Lake Norman and being a major US financial center.

Putting all of this aside, and oh how much fun we could have here, let’s focus on the Business and Careers report.

The Metro population of Charlotte is about 1.8 million people, still quite large. It has several major industries present. One of these we’ve mentioned. It is a hub for financial services. Those working in this field will find a wide range of financial companies here.

It is the second largest banking center behind only New York within the US..  Additionally, it is a significant hub for motorsports and energy, too, according to the Report.

Perhaps you are a budding business owner, or you are looking to find employment with good potential.

It also has a number of colleges and universities nearby. 

Universities nearby include:

  • Queens University of Charlotte

Overall, this North Carolina best place to live has a cost of living that is 1.3% above national average.  But I think you will find the salaries in Charlotte may compensate.

The city itself is a beautiful one.   With a humid subtropical climate most of the year. It is just a few miles from Catawba River, Lake Norman and Lake Wylie.

There are about 199 neighborhoods here and a few that might be your North Carolina best place to live.  Including some in the Uptown area.  And others in Eastover (where some of the oldest homes sit.)

You’ll find lots of charm here, as we are today. I’ve also noticed a wide range of friendly people, readily willing to help you.

So, who should call Charlotte home?

If you are retired and looking for a modern city with a good climate to spend time in, this is the right option.

If you are a young family looking for good job, good schools and lots of family friendly activities, this is really a North Carolina best place to live to call home, too.

Even more so if you are a business owner looking to expand, Charlotte offers some very big benefits.
