Woodfin is known for its affordable cost of living and moderate to low priced homes  However it is also known for its location.  This quaint small town sits along the banks of the French Broad River.

Woodfin has plenty of amenities, including shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment options. You’ll also find it has low crime rates and good overall schools.

Heading east of Woodfin and just 13 miles east of downtown Asheville, is the beautiful quaint North Carolina Mountain best place to live of Black Mountain.  Downtown Black Mountain is a bit bigger than some of the other small towns.

And offers plenty of shops and restaurants.  Which would minimize the amount of times you would have to go to Asheville for goods.  However it is still very close.

Black Mountain has a lower cost of living overall. The housing market is stable, and it has low crime rates. The town is also a perfect option if you want small town living yet need to commute to a bigger city for work.

South Of Downtown Asheville

Arden, Oak Park, Fletcher, Mills River, Hendersonville, Flat Rock North Carolina Mountain Best Places To Live

It is about 10 miles outside of the Asheville city limits, and offers plenty of wooded areas. You’ll be able to enjoy the natural beauty of Asheville while being close enough to the city for work.

In fact, many of the local amenities here are all outdoors, from the rivers to the lakes. You’ll find shops and entertainment options close, too, though. Crime remains low as well.

But Fletcher is not the only affordable small town south of Asheville.

And coming full circle we can’t leave Asheville without exploring…

West Of Downtown Asheville

Waynesville North Carolina is the largest town west of Asheville in North Carolina.  And as you would suspect, the Smokey and Appalachian Mountains are the perfect backdrop for this small town.

Waynesville North Carolina Mountain Best Places To Live And like Black Mountain, it has a great downtown.  You might find the distance to Asheville a bit of a drawback as it is a good 40 minutes west.  But depending upon where you currently live, you may think this is not a far distance to commute.  Just remember in this part of western North Carolina you may find the climate could be a problem a couple of times a year.

However I had to share Waynesville with you.  It is simply beautiful.
