Popular with community developers and people of all ages is a type of community called…

"New Urbanism"

New Urbanism Communities are designed in a tightly cluster a wide variety of different types of homes.  This type of master plan is intended to  foster interaction among the residents.

The residents of New Urbanism communities are of different ages and economic backgrounds.

For those of us looking for a small town , these communities feature a walkable Main Street with shops, restaurants and a mix of commercial development.

Usually they also contain a Village Square or Green in which residents can gather.  All this de-emphasizes the need to use a car and encourage a great sense of community without leaving your neighborhood.

Also important to the New Urbanism Community is that they leave a portion of the site undeveloped so residents can enjoy common "green space" together.

Definitely a type of community worth checking into if your Best Place to live in North Carolina or South Carolina is a master planned community.
