Woodside Plantation Community
Woodside Plantation is just at the borders of what I’d consider the South Carolina Upcountry or mountains, but it’s got so much to offer, I couldn’t leave it out as a best place to relocate or retire in South Carolina.
First, its location is excellent.
Set outside of Aiken, South Carolina in the middle of equestrian country, Woodside Plantation’s 2,300 acres are in one of my favorite areas of South Carolina.
Living near Aiken puts you in great position to access the coast and the mountains, as well as South Carolina's capital city of Columbia in the heart of the state.
Just to the west you have Augusta, Georgia.
The community itself is packed to the gills with amenities.
Aside from being a designated bluebird sanctuary, the Woodside Planation community has nature preserves, hiking and walking trails, a community garden, seven stocked lakes for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, and over 20 acres of parklands.
Sports lover’s will enjoy the tennis and golf options. There are 3, 18- hole course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, Bob Crupp, and Rees Jones, as well as a challenging 9-hole, par three course.
Racquet lovers can play on 16 lighted courts, 14 of which are clay, and two are hard.
If your best place to live is a bit of a slower pace to your games, there is a regulation croquet court, with a league to compete in.
Relax at the two clubhouses, with their restaurants, pubs, and meeting rooms.
During the year there are events such as card games, luaus, holiday parties, and the residents of Woodside Plantation are active in many charities.
And remember, even if you do get bored at Woodside, you’ve got plenty to do right around you with Augusta, GA, and Columbia, SC each within an hour drive.
