Kiawah Island Community
The number one course in Zagat’s America’s Top Golf Courses of 2007-2008 and rated in Golf Magazine's 2011 Top 100 Courses in the United States is Kiawah Island, SC's Ocean Course
Even if the Ocean Course hadn’t received high honors, Kiawah Island would have been on my list of the best South Carolina golf communities.
Kiawah Island offers what most communities can’t, a private island retreat for residents, and a beautiful place to visit for everyone else.
There are about 4,500 residences on the 10,000 acres of Kiawah Island, SC.
On the island, there are five, yes, five world class courses, designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, and Tom Watton.
Playing these courses are as close as it gets to being on the PGA tour, which happens to host events on the Ocean Course frequently.
The Ocean Club at Kiawah Island South Carolina has been selected to host the 2012 PGA championships.
The parts of the island that aren’t covered by golf courses, are filled with other amusements.
There are two tennis complexes, with 28 courts in total. Some courts are inside, some outside, some clay, some hard.
Whatever your playing preference is, you’ll find it at Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
There are several clubhouses with formal and casual dining, indoor and outdoor pools, and fitness centers.
The tennis centers and golf courses employ pros to give lessons.
There are 30 miles of jogging and bike trails on the island, as well as 10 miles of beach, and a 21 acre park.
You can go fishing, crabbing, and shrimping in the island’s marshes and creeks, and some homesites come with deepwater docks.
For immediate shopping needs, there is a shopping village on the island, with a supermarket and all the basics however, Charleston is 20 minutes away for the rest of your needs, or a great night out on the town.
