We’ve learned about quite a few small towns around Columbia South Carolina. Best places where you get the conveniences of a major city, without having to be right there in the middle of it. This week we're exploring Pine Ridge South Carolina and Gaston South Carolina.
I've had a great time and I trust you have learned about some areas that you may want to consider for our best place to live.
So far, we’ve visited
We’re closing our tour of Columbia South Carolina exploring the small towns of Pine Ridge and Gaston, South Carolina.
Pine Ridge South Carolina is a small town approximately nine miles south of Columbia, located in Lexington, County. With a population of approximately 1,997 people, this is the perfect small town to call home.
Just two miles away from both Interstate 26 and Interstate 77, you can quickly and easily get to Columbia.
Visit upstate South Carolina or the mountains of western North Carolina, via I-26, or Charlotte, North Carolina or the beaches of Charleston, South Carolina via I-77.
If you love the mountains and the beach, this central location is perfect for you!
Though the town is small, it is growing.
Pine Ridge is proud of it's good schools, churches, and community library.
Soon, Pine Ridge South Carolina won’t be a nicely hidden jewel!
You can stay up-to-date with the town’s growth by visiting Town Hall on the second Tuesday of every month.
As a gateway town to Lake Murray, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy such as: swimming, fishing, and boating, or just soaking up the sun.
Traveling south of Pine Ridge about six miles, we reach our final best place around Columbia South Carolina.
Gaston, South Carolina. Just 15 miles south of Columbia, this small town had a population of 1,645 as of the 2010 census.
You may think a town so small doesn’t really have anything fun to offer its residents, but Downtown Gaston offers several shops and restaurants.
What really makes downtown Gaston South Carolina unique is a locally owned emu and ostrich farm open to the public.
About five minutes away from Gaston, you’ll find the Hidden Valley Golf Course (great for golf lovers!) and about 10 minutes away you’ll find the Charwood Country Club.
If you travel just five more minutes, you’ll find plenty of entertainment with movies and live entertainment, the Riverbanks Zoo, the South Carolina State Museum, and the Kroger Center for the Arts.
The University of South Carolina is only 20 minutes away, making Gaston South Carolina an ideal location for families of college students, and college students who want to live on their own near the school while saving money.
Whether you are retiring or relocating to the Columbia area for a change of pace, or a new job, it is a great place for families with or without children, and for college students making it on their own.
Since these towns are small, they are more affordable to live in than Columbia. Living this close, you will not feel as though you are missing out on the big city.
Pine Ridge South Carolina and Gaston South Carolina are also among the best places to live. Come check out the peace and quiet and amazing scenery.
Columbia is a beautiful part of the South Carolina Piedmont.
I hope you enjoyed our journey learning about the best places surround Columbia South Carolina as much as I did.
Next week, will continue our trek through South Carolina. Until then…
See you in the Carolinas,
Bob
