Charleston Beaches Video Transcript
Along the Atlantic coastline between South Carolina, Georgia and Florida are over 100 islands known as the Barrier Island or Seal Islands. Today we will be visiting the barrier Islands of Isle of Palms, Sullivan Island, Folly Beach and Kiawah Island in the greater Charleston South Carolina area.
On our way to Isle of Palms just minutes east of downtown Charleston is the town of Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is a modern suburb with a small town feel which provides many of the services for neighboring Isle of Palms and Sullivan Island.
In spite of its growth into a bedroom community over the last 20 years, Isle of Palms with its 6 miles of gorgeous white sandy beaches remains a place of serenity, charm and natural beauty.
Just a short ride south of Isle of Palms is Sullivan Island. With not even a traffic light and a business district of a couple of restaurants, beach bars and 2 doctor offices, the charm and lure of Sullivan Island is its seeming remoteness and beach front living while being just minutes from the bustling Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston.
On the southern side of the Charleston Peninsula on our way to Folly Beach is James Island, one of South Carolinas most urban Sea Island. Home to Fort Sumtner and due to its close proximity to downtown Charleston, James Island has experienced an upsurge in residential development and offers a wide selection of housing from comfortable established neighborhoods to fresh newly developed areas.
Historic Folly beach is a casual living residential community and the closet beach to downtown Charleston. Along with beautiful beaches, a pier and great location, Folly Beach offers waterfront homes on the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Making our way to Kiawah Island, we travel through West Ashley and John’s Island. West Ashley is the oldest and closest suburb to Charleston and has a large selection of moderately priced homes.
Johns Island, also a Sea Island has rapidly been changing from a rural farming town to a suburban bedroom community again, due to its short 20 minute ride to downtown Charleston.
If resort living is your style, the 10,000 acre private residential resort community of Kiawah Island is among the best. Averaging 1.6 million dollars, there are elegant homes, villas and condominiums to choose from. The Kiawah Island village offers a variety of shopping, restaurants, a fabulous supermarket, banking and post office and if you can’t find what you want, you are only 21 miles south of downtown Charleston.
The Kiawah Island community offers 5 star dining, 7 legendary golf courses, tennis, 30 miles of paved biking trails and the award winning sanctuary hotel all nestled in a nature setting along 10 miles of breathtakingly beautiful beaches.
Kiawah Island is exceptional lifestyle surrounded by natural beauty.
