Yes, I know I said South Carolina Best College Town but….it just sounds better than South Carolina Best College city.
If you’re young or young at heart that is!
The cost of living in this part of coastal South Carolina is remarkably low especially for its close proximity to the beach.
Residents of Conway can also worry less about seasonal hurricanes, as their inland location takes some of the force out of the storms. Needless to say the home insurance rates will also be a bit less expensive. However you’re still relatively close to the beach (about 8 miles.)
Coastal Carolina University is located in Conway, and with over 4,000 students is an integral part of the community.
A college atmosphere always lends itself to more energy in an area. And how nice to have a University locally for when the kids grow up? And if you are planning on relocating for retirement, you can find a variety of courses in the Lifelong Learners department of the University.
More than 300 Lifelong Learning courses, taught by 75 qualified instructors, to more than 1200 students are offered each term.
These courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of community residents and are offered during day and evening hours. There are so many courses offered I couldn’t begin to list them here.
Some of the categories of classes include:
- PC Basics
- Facebook – What’s The Big Deal?
- And nature, history and culture excursions
Senior citizens (age 60 or older) who are legal residents of South Carolina and who are not employed full-time may be eligible to attend classes on a space available basis without the payment of tuition (excludes required course fees).

Conway SC although a small town, has its own hospital, located in town, as well as being located 156 miles from Myrtle Beach’s facilities.
There are many things to like about Conway South Carolina but one thing I especially like about Conway….any town or city is when the community is involved. In 1986 local citizens got together and formed a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the city’s authentic Rivertown. They call themselves Conway Downtown Alive.
There’s no doubt Conway Downtown Alive has influenced the success of the downtown area with it’s mix of eclectic shops, restaurants and historic charm.
The town of Conway, located along the Waccamaw River, with a population of around 16,317 people, is showing strong signs of growth.
