Irmo South Carolina is a fast growing town. In the early 70’s, there were only about 500 people living there. This rapid growth serves as a testament to the quality of life Irmo residents enjoy.
Irmo SC now has a population of about 11,223 people, and is located in Lexington County South Carolina, which has a population of about 216,014 people. The median housing cost in Irmo is approximately $93,800.
Located nearly in the middle of the state, Irmo is about fifteen minutes northwest of Columbia SC, right next to Lake Murray.
Irmo’s central location allows you to get to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Greenville SC in about an hour and a half, and to the coast and Charleston SC in about two hours.
Irmo SC is a beautiful small town, representing one of the gateways to Lake Murray. The waters of Lake Murray and its surrounding land offer opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, camping and plenty of outdoor fun.
Irmo’s downtown is full of shops for any taste. There are dance and pottery studios, art galleries, and fine little restaurants.
Visit Miyo’s for fine Szechuan cuisine, or Zorba’s for authentic Greek dishes.
During the summer, the meticulously manicured town park plays host to outdoor concerts. Fall brings the annual Okra Strut, a popular street festival lasting two days, and drawing 45,000 people to Irmo.
