Little Switzerland, North Carolina Best Place To Live
Beginning its history as a mountain resort town, Little Switzerland North Carolina received its name from those visitors who felt the scenery resembled the Swiss Jura Mountains.
Aren't familiar with the Swiss Jura Mountains?
They are a system of mountains extending for 225 miles in an arc on both sides of the France-Swiss border from the Rhône River to the Rhine but mostly in Switzerland, (hence the name) but a good part of the western sector lies in France.
Not much has changed from the early days in Little Switzerland.
Little Switzerland is still one of the most beautiful spots in North Carolina, still very small and a resort town the envy of many.
But it's definitely a perfect quiet mountain getaway. Not just for a vacation though.
Little Switzerland is also a great place to live if you like small town living and mountains.
Little Switzerland NC has the distinction as being one of the few towns set right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Located in the middle of the Pisgah National Forest, Little Switzerland NC is set amidst great mountains, waterfalls, lakes and streams.
Little Switzerland has a population of 650 people and is located in McDowell County North Carolina which has a total population of 43,988 people.
The mountainsides change with the seasons, from winter's white to the greens of spring and summer, and the blazing reds, oranges and yellows of fall, Little Switzerland NC is beautiful any time of year.
Other small mountain towns nearby are Altapass and North Cove, each about fifteen minutes away.
However, they too are small towns. The closest larger cities are Asheville NC and Boone NC, each about an hour away.
Little Switzerland NC is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs southwest to northeast. Access to Interstate 40 is about forty minutes to the south.
