Banner Elk North Carolina is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest, and the surrounding countryside is made up of some of the most densely forested areas in the state.
Fittingly, Christmas brings cause for celebration from local lumber workers, as Banner-Elk NC is one of the largest Christmas tree suppliers in the country.
Known as the "Balcony of the Blue Ridge Mountains," Banner-Elk North Carolina has the highest county seat in Eastern America, leading to winter fun centered around skiing and snowboarding or just watching the snow fall.
The county seat of Avery County North Carolina, Banner Elk has a population of 935 people in a small county which has a total population of 17,932people.
Banner Elk NC is in good proximity to many larger towns. Boone NC is just about thirty minutes to the west, as is the artsy town of Blowing Rock NC.
Charlotte NC, Asheville NC and Winston-Salem NC are all around two hours away.
Getting in and out of town isn't the easiest however as there are no major interstates in the area, and Routes 19E and 321 are about the best choices for travel.
