Hi Cathleen,

You are absolutely correct...the cost of living in North Carolina
is greater than South Carolina, but way lower than many other areas I've researched.

You can get much more detailed information in my North Carolina guide,
which will make it easier to compare areas, and it comes with a personal
consultation with me.

Hi Bob,
I just discoverd your website. We currently live in Prospect, KY where we retired from So. California 3 years ago. Although, we love KY and our home here, the winters are depressing, very cold and long. We are looking at Davidson, NC and plan a visit in the spring.

One concern about Davidson is that, as we do our research, we notice a significant higher cost of living in NC, especially sales, tax, cost of groceries (that ae also taxed), lack of significant tax breaks for retirees, high cost of medical, etc.

We would love to be able to come up with a true cost comparison but nothing on the internet is really working for us.

Any help or direction you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi There,

Please go to the archives of my blog, The Carolina Report, and click on August 2009.
On August 14, 2009, I did a very extensive post on all the areas of Charlotte and the surrounding areas.

Feel free to email me with further questions.

Waxhaw, NC is a quaint small town south of Charlotte, close to
the South Carolina border.
You need to like small town living to locate there.
But it's close enough to Charlotte to have some "city" fun
now and then.
If you have children, the school system is good!

Be Well,
Bob

Savannah is gorgeous!

The housing stock is full of history, and the people
are friendly and helpful.

But remember this is truly in the South.
It's a bit provincial and cliquish, until they get to know you.

And definitely humid in the summers!
