What about the history and charm of this coastal South Carolina best place to live?
As we drive into Charleston (and if you’ve ever been here you know it’s true,) it is easy to tell where you are.
Virtually every corner features another church, some of which date back 100 years or more.
That’s something that’s quite common in Charleston. But don’t assume that it is all religious. In fact, as one of the Coastal South Carolina best places to live, Charleston has become very tourism-heavy.
And that’s not a bad thing either.
As we drive through downtown, there are tell-tale signs of this. Including the numerous bed and breakfasts and various attractions.
Look deeper, though, and you’ll see why it is one of the coastal South Carolina best places to live.
Charleston with all it’s history has also become quite modern.
The College of Charleston, Medical University of South Carolina, and The Military College of South Carolina really showcase the area’s strong educational structure.
And, coastal Charleston is home to numerous businesses in some of the most in-demand career fields.
Still, the historical buildings really draw me in. But what I’m really looking for today are the stats.
Can you really make a living even if it is one of the Coastal South Carolina best places to live?

It is home to more than 698,200 people.
The biggest industries here are technology and tourism. Remember, it ranked #61 out of 200 cities in the U.S. for business and careers.
Of those hundreds of cities, Charleston ranked #28 in job growth.
It has an unemployment rate that is 6.5 percent, which is lower than most areas in the region. And, it has an affordable cost of living.
Although the cost of living is higher than 6.7 percent of the national average. Charlestons has a gross metro product of more than $29.4 billion, a key figure when it comes to jobs in the area.
And, the median home price is $206,300. A little bit more than South Carolina in general. But you are close to some of the best beaches in South Carolina if not the entire east coast.
