Carolinas… Good and Bad Or Just Good
A subscriber wrote me recently and asked me if when I write about the best places to live in the Carolinas, do I write about the Good and Bad aspects of retiring or relocating to the Carolinas or just the Good?
I found it pretty thought provoking, and here's my answer…
Good Morning Alex,
I guess we all report things in line with the way we view life.
I've always been an optimist, but I feel in reference to North Carolina and South Carolina, it's definitely warranted.
There are several Blog Posts, Articles, and Free Reports on my site that make people aware of things they need to watch out for in finding their best place to relocate or retire to the Carolinas.
I wanted to make sure I gave people the benefit of what I've found in the 35 years I'm doing this kind of work!
As far as North Carolina and South Carolina go, two areas I discuss with people during my private consultation (which they get when they order the "Ultimate Guide To Finding Your Best Places To Live In The Carolinas"), are schools and crime.
I do this because people considering the Carolinas as their best place should be advised the schools are not "bad", but the scholastic levels as represented by the SAT scores, may be less than the schools in the Northeast or other parts of the country.
Just like the restaurants, shopping, cultural events, etc. may not up to par with Chicago, Los Angeles, New York or Paris.
People are pretty aware of that. It just makes sense. There's only one New York and one Paris!
It's not that the rest are bad, just different. And it's a matter of each person's trade offs.
Do I want affordable, lower cost of living, slower, less congested, sane living or do I want to live in New York (my home town)?!
Also, a number of people have assumed just because they are moving to the South, there's very little crime. That's not true, however the crime rate in 16 of our 52 states is rated as "average".
That's where South Carolina and North Carolina fall in…average…not low, but not high.
But I like making people aware of it, so they have no illusions.
As far as I'm concerned, both South Carolina and North Carolina still offer affordable housing, low cost of living (especially real estate taxes!),great climate, open space, less congestion, friendly, helpful, considerate people, incredible natural beauty, a slower more humane pace, and great value for economic growth.
However, it could be said there are other places in the country that could say the same thing.
That's plenty of reasons for me to believe that North Carolina and South Carolina have some of the best places to live!
Be Well,
Bob
