The Perfect Type of Community
While once a place where only the wealthier citizens of Charleston kept summer homes, Mount Pleasant has grown considerably over the years to become the fifth largest municipality in South Carolina. In fact, over the last fifteen to twenty years Mount Pleasant has been one of the fastest growing towns in South Carolina during which time its population has doubled to almost 65,000 people.
Mount Pleasant is an increasingly popular tourist destination as well for relocation and retirement. Boasting beautiful natural settings, a number of historical landmarks and access to local beaches and islands, Mount Pleasant offers a host of activities with low country charm to spare.
An expansive beach front and numerous outdoor facilities offer a variety of activities including golfing, tennis, boating, deep-sea fishing and nature tourism. Furthermore Mount Pleasant is situated very close to popular beach destinations and offers quick access to Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palm. If local history and culture are of interest then Mount Pleasant is home to the Boone Hall Plantation and Charles Pinckney National Historic site as well the Patriot Point Naval and Maritime Museum, home of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown.
Located just to the east of Mount Pleasant on the other side of SC Highway 41, is the master planned community of Park West. Park West is an example of a type of development called “New Urbanism” which seeks to create tightly clustered “walkable” communities containing a wide range of housing and business types while attracting residents of different ages and economic backgrounds.
New Urbanism communities also leave a portion of the community undeveloped to allow for common “green spaces”.
New Urbanism provides a self contained community, taking the meaning of "quality lifestyle" to a new level by blending convenience and seclusion with the preservation of natural features.
Park West provides extensive retail and professional services including a supermarket, restaurants, boutiques, medical, dental, veterinary, banking, and law offices. The community holds not only a child-care facility, but also an educational campus with two elementary schools, and a middle school. You don't have to worry about rezoning if your community houses the schools.
In addition, the new Mount Pleasant Wando High School is on contiguous property with a connector road to Park West and the new Roper Hospital is also on the connector road. Moreover, Park West is close to the College of Charleston and The Citadel, located in downtown Charleston, as well as Trident Technical College and Charleston Southern University in the Tri-County area.
Park West offers a wide array of distinctive neighborhoods from detached single-family homes, to townhomes, neotraditional homes, and condominiums. Prices range anywhere from condominiums starting in the $150’s to single family and townhomes starting in the low $200 and rising to upwards of over $2 million. Assisted living care and single family rentals are also available that offer 24/7 maintenance with nurse staff offering families choices that vary in style, size and price range to suit all of life's stages.
In keeping with its emphasis on “quality lifestyle”, six miles of bike/hiking paths and sidewalks connect everything within Park West. Members of the community also have access to a host of recreational opportunities including a swim and tennis club with two pools, play parks, volleyball, a summer kitchen, six lighted tennis courts, a community club house, pool houses, parks, plus access to a 59-acre Town of Mount Pleasant Recreational Facility with softball, baseball, football, soccer, in-door swimming, track, and dog park.
Park West is five minutes from several impressive golf courses. There are also four and a half miles of river frontage and water access to Toomer & Darrell Creek, the Wando River and Intercoastal waterway making fishing and boating a must.
Beautiful Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island beaches are only ten minutes away, as well as the Mt. Pleasant Towne Center featuring major shopping, dining and theater. It's a short drive to downtown Charleston, Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market, I-526 interstate access, Charleston International Airport, Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park, Patriots Point, and so much more.
