Why Do People Love Greenville, SC
When I pulled into Greenville, SC on my recent trip, I couldn't believe my eyes!
The very first thing I saw right in the middle of the downtown Greenville were lush green parks and waterfalls… right smack downtown!
Clean, well maintained, and beautiful.
It was an incredible site!
It's clearly evident Greenville, SC is paying attention to creating a place that's attractive to visitors, retirees, and young families considering Greenville as their best place to relocate in South Carolina.
The city was clean and vibrant.
From the brick pavers in the streets, to the quaint small shops, busy restaurants, and cultural events.
What I really liked was the availability of a wide variety of residential properties right downtown. There's new construction taking place, which is a good sign especially in this economy, and Marriott is building a beautifully designed, mixed use, complex downtown.
An indication someone is watching the store in Greenville, SC is evidenced by the fact that Marriott is developing a building in keeping with the human scale of the area! They weren't allowed to come in and build a 50' tower in the middle of the city.
Hats off to the Greenville, South Carolina planners!
Greenville's location substantiates my feeling it has a promising future.
It's part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson growth corridor along Interstate 85 from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta, in the southwest part of South Carolina.
Spartanburg, SC and Anderson, SC are two smaller cities also trying to create an atmosphere to encourage visitors, and attract people looking for their best place to relocate or retire to in South Carolina, and are just east of Greenville.
The proximity of these three cities to each other creates an opportunity for future growth.
And don't forget Clemson, SC is also located in this area…home of Clemson University!
Greenville, SC has a population of 60,000 in the City, and approximately 438,000 in the County.
Spartanburg, SC has a population of approximately 40,000 in the City, with 280,738in the County.
Anderson, SC has a population of 27,000 in the City, and 182,000 in the County.
And what about jobs?
Entrepreneur magazine named the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina area as the 8th best mid-sized area for small business. Greenville, SC was ranked #22 in Forbes, "Best Cities for Jobs in 2008". At last count, there were 80 international firms representing 18 countries, in this area!
Greenville, South Carolina is a small city with big appeal in many different ways, and a bright future!

Comments on Why Do People Love Greenville, SC
I've lived in Greenville since 1998. I've seen quite a bit of growth and talked to many. It's common to hear three disapointing facts. The first one is the schools, realizing it depends what you may be compairing to but locals think it's the best. Midwestern and Yankee's are
appauled. Secondly, the southern kindess of the people. Subject to opinion. Don't turn your back. and finally, don't be fooled by the downtown area. Although a beautiful area, unless you like to eat, before 8:00PM it's dead!
Hi Kathleen,
I'm really happy to get your feedback on Greenville.
It's always nice to give people a balanced view,
especially a firsthand one from someone who lives there.
I hear a lot about the difference in the schools from people
coming from the East. Although I've always felt if someone really
wants to learn and apply themselves, there's no stopping them!
There are many towns I visit, not just in the South, whose downtown
areas close up early, especially in this economy!
I find they usually get busier and stay open later as the young people
breath some new life into them.
And I also find it's a bit seasonal.
Thanks Again,
Bob
